How I Live in Abundance
I look around and people are constantly busy striving for the next big thing. Why is everyone either stagnant or never satisfied. Where do we draw the line? Why is no one happy where they’re at? I remember the days where I worked so hard on my business, every inch of my energy was invested into growing my income stream. Slowly I forgot to stop and look around at what was truly important. Sometimes we focus on the good things in life and miss out on the GREAT things in life. It is quite common for us to overlook the small details of what matters.
I remember hearing so many mothers saying, “I wish I had spent more quality time with my kids instead of focusing on doing things for them.” We focus too much on doing all the good and right things, but miss out on the best moments.
Practicing gratitude was something that truly changed my life. I used to have a mentor who told me to write down three things I was grateful for each day. This opened up a different perspective in life for me and allowed me to really enjoy what life had to offer. When we are able to appreciate every small thing, we will be able to enjoy the bigger things. It also became a reminder that we are never in lack. There is always things to be grateful for.
Thinking back to a trip I did in Uganda to work at a babies home, I thought I would be there to really offer help, but instead I felt like I was the one who got the most out of the trip. I arrived in Africa thinking that I had a lot to offer, but even though in a worldly view, they seemed to be in lack, they had an abundance to offer me. I stayed there for 6 weeks and saw how joyful people were with little they had. They taught me how to enjoy every meal shared, the simple things to be happy about like singing in a circle, sitting under the sun and having a nap. I never realised and noticed these were things to be thankful for.
All these things made me realise that we all have an abundance to give, but we cannot give if we do not first recognise what we have. The first step to a joyful and abundant life is to have gratitude.
